Did You Know? 10 Interesting Facts About LAB Theater Project

1. Our Theater space was built in 1905, and we believe it used to be a garage. 

2. When we did the demolition in the building we discovered evidence of a major fire in the building’s past. 

3. Starting a company from nothing, we put up a our first show, Cleave, with a budget of $1100.

4. In working with new playwrights, we have been fortunate enough to have submissions from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Colombia, and Peru.

5. Always a trailblazer, LAB Theater Project was the first theater company in the Tampa Bay Area to return to live theater with the production of the Meredith Brothers which opened July 9, 2020.

6. LAB Theatre Project was also the first company in the Tampa Bay Area to livestream performances.

7. As a result of livestream, LAB has developed a consistent international audience,  including views from South Africa, India, China, Italy, France, Germany, Ireland, Canada,  and Mexico.

8. LAB has been able to develop and produce works from 5 area playwrights.

9. LAB has an opening night tradition that one must be part of LAB to know what it is. 

10. During LAB’s first five years all performers had to learn and observe the Silver Meteor pause during our Sunday matinees.
