A word from the founding Artistic Director Anna Brennen:

I’ve always viewed Stageworks as an outsider. Stageworks plays are most frequently about dangerous things. Stageworks artistic journey has been and is to give voice to those marginalized by circumstance. We have created a theatre that explores the cultural tension inherent in living in a multi-cultural society that is still struggling with painful legacies of racism, sexism, homophobia and Antisemitism.

Stageworks is:

  1. Lead by Producing Artistic Director, Karla Hartley;
  2. An eight member Board;
  3. Two full-time staff, six part-time staff;
  4. 168 artists and over 100 volunteers.
  5. We serve approximately 20,000 audience members annually.

Additionally Stageworks is:

  • Tampa’s longest-running professional theatre company onstage since 1983
  • The bridge from the Straz to Ybor City’s vibrant arts scene
  • A gathering place for Channel District residents who cherish our area and what SW produces
  • A home for diverse at risk youth to learn and ‘do’ theater
  • A sanctuary for artists to congregate, create & perform

OUR MISSION: To create theatre that respects, ignites and celebrates the human spirit, and challenges the thresholds of intolerance.
