2016 Spark Award Recipient Narratives
To Thaddeus, in appreciation of his focused determination to help build a burgeoning theater company. For his dedication in every show that was produced through The Space, and his constant drive to help us grow and develop the technical aspect of The Space. Never a bad word, never an irritated moment, just pure love in everything he accomplished. We would have not made it through the year without Thaddeus.
American Stage Theatre Company
Stephanie Snyder (Development Director, American Stage) – Stephanie’s tireless work on behalf of American Stage is rooted a true belief in community. In an industry that is in constant need of additional resources, she continually finds creative and inspired opportunities to provide support for our nonprofit arts organization. Stephanie creates meaningful partnerships and her appreciation for the relationships formed through her fundraising efforts reminds us all that we are a stronger community when we join forces.
Every so often you might come across a person who moves through the world in a way that makes you pause in wonderment. A person whose patience, generosity, and empathetic nature shine so brightly that it’s difficult to grasp how such goodness could be as genuine as it is, and yet it is the most genuine. The most pure. A person who is committed to leaving every place and person he encounters a little better than he found it. We feel blessed to call such a person part of the freeFall Family, and that person is Larry Alexander. In addition to being an artist of the highest caliber, Larry goes over and above to support the theatre, the staff, and whatever cast he happens to be a part of. From washing dishes and making coffee, to ironing, providing rides, and filling our theatrical space and hearts with heaps of positive energy, we could not feel more thankful to honor Larry with this award today. Larry – you are one of a kind, and we appreciate you more than just a few words have the capacity to say. Thank you for all you do – we love you.
On behalf of the entire Powerstories family I would like to nominate Darouny Bounsengsay, our wonderful Production Stage Manager for a SPARK AWARD. If anyone embodies the true spirit of this recognition it is Darouny, or Danny as she likes to be called. I have personally know Danny since she was in the 4th grade and I was a partner teacher in her classroom teaching theatre arts. She spent summers in the background of camps and youth programs at Ruth Eckerd Hall- always sewing and gluing and painting and working endless hours making props and costumes, doing anything to support the students on stage – helping them to showcase their art. When Powerstories began producing published plays 2 years ago and I came on as Artistic Director, I asked Danny to come on as my Stgae Manager. She had just graduated high school and was enrolled in her first semester in college but she said YES without a hesitation. From that moment on, she has been the true backbone of the creative work we do at Powerstories. From auditions, through table reads, through cues to costume plots, Danny is there. And after the show mounts, she moves from traditional PSM to light and sound operator for the run of the production. And in the 7 shows we have produced over the last, she has never missed a day. She is steady, smart, capable, hardworking, dedicated, enthusiastic, loving, kind and an absolute wonderful person to have on your team. I cannot image my team without her on it. THANK you Darouny for all you do for Powerstories… and for doing it all so well. Did I mention- she does it all in a 3″ HEEL??
Faith Von Minden
In appreciation of her dedication and devotion to our production of “MMF” by David Kimple, Silver Meteor Gallery thanks the ever-faithful Faith Von Minden for making it an enjoyable and rewarding artistic success. Although the show’s titled “MMF”, I will always think of it as “MMF + 1” thanks to her stage-managing talents.
Johnny Garde has been the spark that helps the theatre run for the past three years. His tireless dedication is matched only by his enthusiasm and willingness to serve. As the patron services coordinator at Stageworks he deftly handles ticketing, volunteers and donors with the same kindness and joy hat he tackles everything in his life. As an actor Johnny has graced our stage a number of times. He is a gifted and giving actor who puts the production first in his thoughts and always gives everything he has to whatever role he is given.
Our organization would not be the same without him and Stageworks Theatre proudly awards the 2016 Spark Award to Johnny Garde.

I Do!, The Glass Menagerie, and others. Although she is leaving us to move to Florida’s east coast, she will always be an honored member of our family.
