Theatre Tampa Bay received the honor of being named Top Arts Supporting Organization of the Decade by Broadway World in 2020.

Mission

To promote and support professional theatre in the Tampa Bay Area

The theater has always been able to bring together a shared collective experience from all walks of life and has had the power to reach across boundaries and divisions to unite through story. The professional theater landscape of the Tampa Bay area is as rich with talent, diverse in its reach and strong in its messages. The board of Theatre Tampa Bay is looking for additional members interested in continuing to support those ideals and represent all communities touched by this wonderful art form we call Theater.

Jeff Norton Dream Grant

Jeff Norton Dream Grant for Professional Theatre Artists Theatre Tampa Bay, the alliance of the region’s professional theatre artists & organizations, is proud to announce the creation of an annual, unrestricted grant for theatre artists. In the memory of the late artist and teacher, Jeff Norton, whose immeasurable impact on the Bay area theatre scene is still being felt, TTB is deliberately keeping the grant criteria broad and the application simple.We wish to encourage artists to dream “If I only had $500, I would…”

GRANT AMOUNT $525 plus TTB membership
The funds are totally unrestricted and may be used for any kind of project including production, education, and travel or to purchase equipment.

GRANT PERIOD
Applicants should submit by September 1st:

•A single-page narrative explaining how the funds will be used and the effect of the grant on his or her work as a theatre artist. The narrative should use one-inch margins and a 12-point sans serif uncondensed typeface such as Arial or Helvetica.
The top line should list the artist’s name, email, and phone, preferably a cell number.
•A current theatrical resume.

SELECTION PROCESS
A panel of judges representing the ttb Theatres will select the most compelling narrative. The panel will be comprised of at least five members including the ttb Board President, one ttb Theatre Artistic Director and one ttb Member Actor. Panel will include at least one representative from each side of the Bay. If there is no consensus, the recipient will be selected by a simple majority of the panel.

Theatre Tampa Bay Awards Program

Tampa has a thriving and rapidly growing Professional theatre community.  In an effort to recognize excellence in performance and design, The Theatre Tampa Bay Awards were created.

Shows that are awards eligible must run 9 performances the public can attend (previews and Industry nights are included) or have the capacity to seat 900 patrons during the run.

A panel of independent judges, see and score every production in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Production of a Play
  • Outstanding Production of a Musical
  • Outstanding Director of a Play
  • Outstanding Music Direction
  • Outstanding Set Design
  • Outstanding Lighting Design
  • Outstanding Costume Design
  • Outstanding Sound Design
  • Outstanding Choreography/Fight Direction
  • Outstanding Lead Actor – Play
  • Outstanding Lead Actor – Musical
  • Outstanding Lead Actress – Play
  • Outstanding Lead Actress – Musical
  • Outstanding Featured Actor – Play
  • Outstanding Featured Actor – Musical
  • Outstanding Featured Actress – Play
  • Outstanding Featured Actress – Musical
  • Outstanding Ensemble – Play
  • Outstanding Ensemble – Musical

Judges are on the panel for a maximum of 3 years but can participate for multiple terms as long as there is a one year gap between terms.

Based on the judges scores, a show will become TTB Recommended when:

  1. A majority of the judges recommends AND
  2. The average score of the judges is a B+ or above

Once a show becomes TTB Recommended, an email is sent out to the full TTB mailing list and the TTB website is updated.

All this work builds up to the Annual TTB Awards Gala, held at the end of the current season
